MONAMO is a Hungarian jazz band that entered the Hungarian
musical scene in 2011. Since then they have performed in several prestigious
venues, including the Palace of Arts in Budapest (MÜPA). The band combines the
creative energies of singer-violinist Edina Szirtes „Mókus”,
percussionist Kornél Mogyoró and Erkel Ferenc Prize winning
pianist and composer János Nagy. Their repertoire consists of original
compositions, pieces written to accompany the texts of contemporary Hungarian
poets, as well as adaptations of their favourite compositions. MoNaMo comprises both classical and jazz
musicians, who choose to ignore the traditionally accepted boundaries between
the two genres. It is known as an ensemble which represents freedom and a
search for new ways of expression. In May 2012 the trio performed with the
famous trumpet player Martin Shaw (UK). In September 2012 they had Vincent
Mascart (FR, sax.) as a special guest.
